Susanah Smith, Apprentice

Susanah began her journey into midwifery in 2012 after the difficult birth of her fifth child. She started as labor support to the families of her small town in Costa Rica. In 2014, after returning to the United States, she gave birth to her sixth child and then began attending births again, part-time. Since 2016 she has served as a full-time Birth and Postpartum Doula, Lactation Counselor, and Childbirth and Breastfeeding educator in the South Central Pennsylvania region. Susanah has spent her time supporting her clients in their birth and life choices while doing independent studies towards her goal of becoming a practicing midwife.  In Spring 2019 she began her midwifery apprenticeship and is now working towards certification as a midwife.  In her free time she enjoys gardening and hiking with her kids, husband, and dog; attending her community yoga program, and making a mess in her kitchen.
